CHL in Independence, MO?

They've cleared a bunch of land just east of Little Blue Parkway, just southeast of Independence Center.  I found a news story which says that Global Entertainment Corp. is building an arena there.  Immediately, I thought it would be a rodeo event type of place, but after flipping through the slides I found on the Global Entertainment Corp. website, golly, that looks like hockey ice!!  The anchor tenant in the financial proposal is the Central Hockey League.

Weekend work

I get to travel for work, but I have to work over the weekend.  That means I'll miss the Big 12 Hockey Tournament at Pepsi Ice Midwest, the rink where I usually play.  I have played hockey with guys who are on Iowa State, Missouri, and KU JV teams, so it's a bummer that I don't get to see them play.  I would at least want to see the championship game on Sunday, to catch some great hockey.

Friday, February 1st
(Game #1) 12:00pm— 7 Texas A&M vs. 8 KU JV
(Game #2) 2:10pm— 2 Texas Tech vs. 5 Nebraska
(Game #3) 4:20pm— 1 Missouri vs. 6 Texas
(Game #4) 8:00pm— 3 Kansas vs. 4 Iowa State

Saturday, February 2nd
(Game #5) 12:30pm— Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 3
(Game #6) 2:40pm— Loser Game 2 vs. Loser Game 4
(Game #7) 4:50pm— Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 3
(Game #8) 7:00pm— Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 4

Sunday, February 3rd
(Game #9) 7:00am Loser Game 5 vs. Loser Game 6
(Game #10) 9:00am Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6
(Game #11) 11:20am Loser Game 7 vs. Loser Game 8
Championship Game– 1:30pm
(Game #12) Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8

Instead, I get to be in the Chicago area in the coldest part of the year.  Hopefully, the work will be steady.  At least I'll be traveling with some great folks, so there will surely be some fun.

Spam Ad Words

Once every few days, I delete the hundreds of spam messages in my spam folder on gmail.  Since it *is* Google, there are sponsored links on the page.  I just had to click on this one:

Spam Vegetable Strudel - Bake 20 minutes or until golden, serve with soy sauce

What the heck does that taste like?  Ewww.  Who paid money for me to click on it?

Last weekend, I was coaxed into going to a dance club.  Good cardio.  I proceeded to stay out later than everyone else, because I have a jazz club habit.  I was at The Mutual Musicians Foundation until 5am, and the music was absolutely phenomenal.  I was dragging on Sunday, even during my hockey game, which we lost by one point.  One goal was called off because a ref was early on the whistle.  That made it even worse.  I think I'll have to reserve jazz for Friday nights, so I can be fresh on Sunday.

I get to go to the West Suburbs of Chicago at the end of the month for about 10 days.  When I get back, maybe I'll have all the forms I need to do my tax return.  I could use the refund.

Unpopular beliefs

Every once in a while, you read a viewpoint that differs from your own, mull it over, and your mind is changed.  I found one such viewpoint, the logic of which I cannot dispute.  This speech should be famous.  I'm grateful for the Internet and Google for leading me to it.

chill says:
To hear a jazz solo on bagpipes is a little disorienting, but it doesn't sound too far from a soprano sax.
